The Rosefield

The Rosefield - A working fiber farm!

The Rosefield is honored to participate in the Livestock Conservancy’s “Shave ‘em to Save ‘em” project as an official fiber provider.  We offer:

Leicester Longwool Curls, Roving and Yarn, and

Shetland Roving and Yarn (natural colors, limited quantities)

We purchased our farm in 1983, added Targhee ewes and a Dorset Horn ram after some research, and had our first lambing in 1985. On a visit to Williamsburg in 1990, I fell in love with the Leicester Longwools and began campaigning for our first sheep. Jeanne Asplund finally agreed to sell me two ram lambs - John Tyler and William Harrison came to live on our farm. We added ewes from Gwen Handler, Jeanne Asplund, Joan Henry and Kelly Miller, and the rest, as they say, is history. We were pleased to participate in the Colonial Williamsburg breeding program and are members of the USA Leicester Longwool Association.  Over the years, we’ve taken in other breeds of sheep from folks who can no longer care for their animals – all are welcome at The Rosefield!  Currently, we have a small flock of Shetland sheep as well.

If you missed us at the North Carolina Fiber Festival and Maryland Sheep & Wool, or if you need more fiber for an on-going or new project, see our “Store” page for our current stock of fiber products. We have natural and dyed roving with coordinating curls, and several color ways of Leicester Longwool yarn in sport, worsted and bulky weights.  We will also have some raw fleeces in the coming weeks.

We’ll be at the Garden State Sheep & Wool Festival (Hunterdon County Fairgrounds, Lambertville, NJ) on September 7-8, 2019; the Shanandoah Valley Fiber Festival (Clarke County Ruritan Fairgrounds, Berryville, VA) on September 28-29, 2019; and the Fiber Festival of New England (Eastern States Exposition, Mallary Complex, West Springfield, MA) on November 2-3, 2019. See the “Fiber Show” page for more details.
